"My rehabilitation journey through Orange WYLA"

About: Lives Lived Well – Wyla Residential Services (Orange)

(as the patient),

I self admitted myself to the WYLA Orange rehabilitation centre late last year, suffering alcohol and illicit drug addiction. I am proud to say, as of March 2021 that I am confident in my newfound abilities to maintain abstinence, live a healthy life and finally enjoy a drug-free life, all thanks to the skills and activities offered by the amazing WYLA team in Orange NSW.

During my time at WYLA, I have learnt a lot about myself and my addiction, been supported in my journey to abstinence and made some life long friends. I cannot recommend the program enough (they offer 6 and 12 weeks programs, I elected to do the 12 weeks) to those who have come to the conclusion they need some help with their use. The staff have been amazing in tailoring a recovery plan based around my specific needs, and I cannot thank them enough.

I would like to particularly thank Norm, Cassie, Adam, Maggie, Renee, Jordan, Anita and Jody for going well beyond their job description in my opinion, to help me in my recovery. Their patience, caring and insight were instrumental in keeping me focused on my recovery and they are an absolute asset to the facility, a value I cannot properly put into words. Thank you so much for all your help over my time here, I will never forget it.

I never believed I could break my addiction cycle, and don't believe without WYLA's help that I could have. I believe this service is so valuable to people in any sort of addiction and in my opinion, they deserve far more of the funding than they receive, and the staff deserve to have a massive pay increase. The effort they put into each client to help them is truly awe-inspiring, I am truly proud of them all.

The only negative I can honestly think of is I feel that the food is quite sub standard most days, whether this is funding or lack of effort I'm not sure, all I know is that it's going to be a long time before I feel like eating mince again. I feel the nurses could also use a bit of humanity in their approach to the clients, there's no need to be rude and curt to people who have hit rock bottom. Aside, from that, I am extremely satisfied by the care I have received. Thank you for having me :)

Dear pyxishq58,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story - and inform us of your time at Wyla. It is great to hear that you are confident in your skills to remain abstinent and start a new substance-free life! Well done.

It is also encouraging to hear how well staff tailored a plan to suit you and your requirements. I will pass on your gratitude to all the staff you mentioned.

Wyla provides a 6-week program, and your suitability to continue on and do the program again seems like it was the right decision for you.

I have passed on your comments regarding the food and nurses to the Team Leader. Again thank you and all the best for your continued success of a substance-free life.

If you require support in the future - please call us on 1300 727 957.

Regards,

Lara
