I arrived at Emergency late in the early hours of the morning with blood blisters in my mouth, bruises on my body and red spots all over my legs. I was scared and had lost my independence. The emergency staff jumped into action and I was greeted with the Haematology Team who took charge explaining they were investigating a disease called itp.
My experience in emergency was a whirlwind. I was well looked after but it wasn’t till arrived on Level 10 West that a feeling of calm came over me. I was greeted by friendly staff and just knew I was in the right place.
My experience became even more bizarre the following day when I ran into a friend from over 30 years ago. She was my rock throughout the 10 days of my stay. She had been coming and going to 10 West as a Cancer patient for several years and continued telling me that I was in the best place with the best staff. She was right.
I would like to acknowledge the team at 10 West as the most professional, hardworking group of women and men I have ever been in the company with. From my isolated bed, I would observe everyone’s movements and be blown away with their apparent readiness to drop everything to run to the needs of those who relied on care and support.
