"Care and staff attitude in the ED"

About: Angliss Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

In my opinion, this place is the absolute worst hospital in Melbourne. My experience was that you have trouble breathing and pains in your heart so bad you can barely breathe or stand and they shove you in respiratory waiting for 30 minutes while you think you're dying.

Not only that but after I go into a bed, I immediately told them I would not be taking a blood test only to wait 4 hours for a doctor to tell me that without a blood test there’s not much you can do. I think this is totally not helpful.

I believe staff were rude and treated me like I was a little kid despite being a full-grown adult. In my opinion, they acted as if I had no idea what I was talking about and that my story on where my illness came from was totally incorrect.

They stuck me in isolation, I had to use a bedpan, my monitor kept going off every 20 seconds cause my heart rate was 130bpm but they still refused to give me any medication. I felt like I was dying.

Every time I come into this hospital I wonder if I should have just stayed at home cause in my experience, they take 5 hours to tell you that they can’t even treat you - I think it's ridiculous.

Dear Skotoma,

Thank you for taking the time to share these comments regarding your experience when attending the Emergency Department at Eastern Health’s Angliss Hospital.

I’m sorry it was not a positive experience and based on your comments it sounds like this was not the first time you have had a similar experience.

In order to review your experience, I would like to invite you to call one of the Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience on 1800 EASTERN.

Please note the Patient Relations Advisor may be on another call. Due to some technical issues we are experiencing at present, I will need to ask you to call back as we are unable to have messages left. I apologise for the inconvenience and burden this places upon you.

Thank you again for sharing your experience and I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

David
