"Midwifery appointment"

About: Albany Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as the patient),

I had my first midwifery appointment at Albany Hospital at 26 weeks. It was with a very lovely midwife who answered all my questions and I didn't feel rushed at all. I was, however, very disappointed that I was not allowed a support person (i.e. my partner) with me to the appointment, despite other clinics in the hospital I believe allowing support persons.

I believe it is sometimes a struggle for the fathers to feel connected to the pregnancy and therefore, I felt like it was very important for him to be included in this, as well as I would have appreciated the support he provides me.

Dear Albanymumtobe,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I am happy to hear that you were so well looked after by the midwife and acknowledge your disappointment, and that of your partner, in not having him by your side during the appointment.

We have reviewed this situation and determined that at this point in the COVID response in WA, one partner or other support person will be able to attend antenatal sessions.

Please accept our apologies and we look forward to seeing you and your partner at your next appointment.

Best wishes.

Barbara Marquand

Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery
