My 8 month old son was admitted through the emergency department a few weeks ago with a fever, lethargy and a distressing cough.
From the time we were admitted until the time we were taken to Perth via RFDS just over 24 hours later, the level of care we received was exceptional. There were multiple doctors and nurses working together to make a diagnosis and to work out treatment options.
He had a dedicated nurse sitting in the area with him 24/7 and all staff members were incredible with answering my questions, making sure I knew what was happening and including me in the care of my son. They were also incredibly understanding that we had another older child too and were having trouble finding them care, so they were with us at times as we both needed to be there with our son.
The doctor on duty was dedicated to ensuring our son got to Perth as she believed it to be the place he needed to be, to address his pressing illness and also to investigate some underlying health issues that may have contributed.
At all times, every staff member who helped our son was kind, compassionate, caring and effective. They made us feel so safe and confident in the level of care he was receiving, at what was a very challenging time.
I feel so lucky to have this facility with the incredible staff within it, in our community. I hope this feedback can be passed on to the staff in the emergency ward, as we are very grateful to them for all they did to ensure our son made a full recovery (he did) and also in being so understanding of the difficulty of the situation for us as the parents.
"Excellent care for baby in emergency department"
