"Triage treatment"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child visited the Emergency Department of Ipswich General Hospital recently at night as they had an accident with their foot whilst playing sport that caused extreme pain. Whilst I am grateful they were given appropriate treatment and attended by great medical staff I am however not impressed by the procedures taken by the first point of contact and the Triage Nurses.

My child was treated fairly but we witnessed many thereafter who I felt were not! One person stated they were coughing up blood and we heard the Triage Nurse say they suspected pneumonia. Their examination was carried out right in the waiting room in what I felt was not social distanced proximity from already waiting patients and in loud earshot to, I believe, all in waiting room. I myself work as a Medical Centre Receptionist and we are constantly reminded of confidentiality rights not to mention Covid-19 expectations! Surely there must be a consulting corner at least to protect patients privacy rights and to at least have distance if carrying infections away from other persons and I believe this has to also be in breach of Duty of Care privacy!
