"An infected hand following a cat bite"

About: Sutherland Hospital / Emergency Department Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was badly bitten by my cat while getting her flu vaccinations done at the vet. My hand immediately began reacting to the bite a few hours after it happened.

After two nights of visiting the doctors in Sutherland Shire Emergency Department (who were amazing) and some antibiotics, I received the  excellent advice to attend the Sydney Hospital Hand and Eye Emergency. They were fantastic.

I was referred to the  Hand Clinic, was checked out by the amazing staff there and referred for day surgery that afternoon. I was so lucky - I ended up being looked after by many terrific nurses and doctors who made sure I was comfortable at all times and understood what was going on.

All staff I encountered were positive, cheerful, professional people who anticipated my needs, nothing was too much to ask for. All treated me with the greatest respect and compassion, despite managing a busy workload in this intense and busy unit. They are amazing people.
