"Care received after snake bite"

About: Kununurra Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

A snake bite - attended the ED at the Kununurra Hospital in the early hours of the morning.

Dear Kununurra Hospital staff,

I write to you all because I wish to extend my gratitude to the staff and nurses at the Kununurra Hospital. Late one night I was bitten by a snake and went in to see the staff at the Kununurra Hospital. I was greeted with a calm and polite nurse who talked me through what needed to be done over the next several hours of treatment . At no point did I feel I was not taken care of or not in good hands.

I take my hat off to all the staff I encountered that night because amongst all the other sick kids, trauma casualties and abusive patients, I feel they maintained a polite and professional attitude.  At times, I feel they were treated with a lot less than common human courtesy and put up with more than can be expected from someone just trying to save your life.

For your treatment of myself and the other casualties, I am humbled and deeply grateful for your outstanding efforts every day. I can safely say that if anyone in Kununurra area gets bitten by a snake, you'll be in safe, calm and collected hands of the Kununurra Hospital staff.

Kind regards,

Australian Cowboy

Dear Australian Cowboy,

I would like to thank you most sincerely for taking the time to write about your experience at Kununurra Hospital following a snake bite. It is really good to hear that the staff were calm and polite and the care that was provided to you was professional. It must have been really concerning for you to have been bitten by a snake. From time to time working in an Emergency Department can have its challenges, however, when we receive feedback such as yours it is really appreciated by staff. I will ensure that they are made aware.

I hope that you are feeling better and that you never have to experience another snake bite again!

Kind regards

Lucy Murphy

Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery
