"Thankful to the staff we dealt with"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Orthopaedic Surgery

(as a service user),

My elderly mother fell and fractured her NOF a few months ago. I want to thank the staff that I encountered in both ED and the ward (G53) which was relentless most days!

I am also a clinician and feel immense gratitude to the staff who allowed me to do all the nursing care for mum (in consultation with RN allocated for the shift). If I could nominate all of them for Nurse Of The Year I would!

My mum requested Pal Care on day 8 post fall (day 6 postop) and passed away on day 10. She remained conscious, cognitive and in charge until she took her last breath constantly saying thanks for the care she received from the staff and us. I feel the medical staff were fabulous. Jess and her team were respectful, collegial and consultative many times a day. I feel the PCA’s went out of their way to provide for mum and me with an extra cup of tea and friendly chats! I am sorry it’s taken me some months to express my thanks and gratitude however it’s been a bit of an adjustment to get used to my profound loss of mum.

I believe the organisation should be extremely proud of the staff in those areas that mum traversed and I feel honoured that I was able to work with them for those last days of mum's life. Could you please ensure ALL the staff are thanked for me?

Yours sincerely.

Dear beidkw68.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your gratitude and heartfelt thanks for the care your mum received from the staff in the Emergency Department and Ward G53.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your mum.

Your experiences of respectful, friendly, consultative and collaborative care, reflect the quality of care that we strive for each day. As a clinician you would be aware of healthcare processes and the associated standards of care expected and it is wonderful to receive such feedback from a clinical colleague.

Thank you once again.

I hope that the pain of your loss subsides in time.

Kind Regards,

Janet Zagari
