"Incredibly rude and poor service"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

I believe my partner had a horrible ordeal when they visited the Wonthaggi hospital recently. I was unable to attend with them due to having to put our infant child to sleep but I feel their experience was disappointing. They have a skin condition called HS which causes them to get boils. This new one they have had for approx a week on their left side of their back has resulted in them not being able to sleep for a few days. They went to the hospital to get it lanced which other hospitals have done in the past and, in my opinion, the excuse that the hospital is not equipped to do it is pathetic (it’s a hospital not a GP clinic). They had to wait 2 hours for any pain relief and I feel the nurse was rude and would not listen to my partner. I understand there was no offer to go to another hospital to get this issue resolved, just sent home with 4 Panodeine Forte and a script of 10 more (even though my partner explained that it doesn’t work and it leaves them sick) and go home and rest.

In the end, this is why we try and stay clear of the hospital because, in my opinion, you can never get the service you need and I believe they just get you out the door as quick as they can. Maybe we can organise an appointment with someone so if this happens in the future (because HS isn’t going away) we have a plan of attack in helping my partner out.

Thanks

Dear melonrd86,

I am so sorry that your relative had a terrible experience. I am very concerned that their experience and interactions with staff have left them feeling as though it is better to avoid hospitals as this is not the standard of care we aim to deliver. I would be very happy to take a call from them and chat through the issues and investigate what happened so as to avoid them, or any other patient, having a similar experience in the future. Would you please ask your partner to give me a call on 0472 846 355?

Kind Regards,
Jan

Hello again,

I haven't heard from your relative. I am very keen to work out what happened for your partner and to talk to the staff involved. Please can you or your partner call me on 0472 846 355 so that I can prevent such experiences in the future.

Kindest Regards, Jan
