"Admission of a friend to Community Mental Health & Acute Psychiatric Unit"

About: Bunbury Mental Health / Bunbury Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) Busselton Community Mental Health Clinic Busselton Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a friend),

Recently, I visited Community Mental Health Unit at Busselton Hospital with a friend that was in severe distress. The receptionist Rebecca was extremely helpful and said that the triage nurse was busy at the time, but we were asked to wait a short while and she would see my friend. Karen one of the triage nurses came out as soon as she could and took my friend and I into a private room. After referral with some colleagues she decided that my friend had to be admitted to Emergency Dept at the hospital for further assessment. She physically walked us down to ED and told the duty nurse what was happening so that she knew when it came my friend's turn to be admitted. This was excellent as it avoided them being asked too many questions in their mental health state.

I sat with them in the waiting room and it wasn't long before we were seen by another Mental Health Triage Nurse - Matt. I felt he was extremely professional and sensitive to my friend's needs and explained everything that was going to happen whilst filling out the necessary paperwork. Matt then arranged for my friend to be admitted and said they would be transferred by ambulance to the Bunbury Hospital Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU). That occurred on the same day and more recently I visited them at the APU to see if they were ok. My friend said that they were extremely happy with the way they were being treated by all the staff and their medical team and wanted to try their best to get better. My friend said that they had saved their life.

So I am just writing to thank all those involved for their outstanding service in this instance and that they have, in my opinion, actually had a huge impact on a very vulnerable person and saved a life.
