"Poor staff attitude"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Orthopaedic Surgical & Trauma & Spinal Care Ward 3H/5G

(as a carer),

My partner was trying to say something to the nursing coordinator but they tend to mumble quite badly and I often find myself having to 'translate' for them.

I was about to clarify for my partner as they were having trouble getting their words out. I drew breath but before I even made a sound, I was met with a comment from the nurse, saying that if I have so much as an aggressive tone in my voice they will have me removed by security. Now, no one had been angry or shouting. In my opinion, it was totally uncalled for and inappropriate. I feel I did nothing to warrant such a response, my partner and I were dumbfounded.

Dear cetusfb63,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with the concerns you recently experienced at Royal Perth Hospital. I am saddened to hear what transpired and please accept my sincere apologies as this is not the standards required of our staff members.

Be reassured your feedback has been passed on to the appropriate senior managers who will discuss this with their teams to reiterate the importance of the hospital's expected high standard of patient care and communication.

I hope your partner is recovering well and wish you both all the best.

Kind Regards

Dr Lesley Bennett
