My friend, for whom I am also guardian, was sent to ED by ambulance recently in the morning after a fall at their nursing home and subsequent vomiting. I was contacted by the nursing home and I telephoned the emergency department. I was put through to a registrar, Elliott, who told me very clearly what the situation was with my friend and checked more of her history with me. He also checked her Advanced Care directive instructions. My friend has advanced dementia and cannot communicate. She was quite agitated and Elliott agreed I should come to ED to be with her.
When I arrived my friend was about to be taken for scans and X-rays and I was invited to accompany her. Marissa, an ED nurse, was marvellous - compassionate and caring.
Daniel, a senior ED doctor, informed me of the test results and discussed the options for my friend’s care. I was so impressed with Daniel’s manner. He pulled up a chair and sat down to talk with me. He told me he would write a report to the nursing home with his recommendations for my friend’s ongoing care.
Thank you so much for the excellent service and care you provide especially for those in our society who are so vulnerable. Thank you Elliott for taking the time to talk with me to clarify the situation with my friend. Thank you especially Marissa and Daniel for your wonderful care. We are so fortunate in Bunbury to have such a great facility and fantastic staff.
