I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in the Positive Birth Program (Hypnobirthing) last year during the COVID-19 lockdowns, this is, in my opinion, honestly one of the best programs the hospital could offer expecting parents. I feel the facilitator, Kasey, did an absolutely amazing job and I will forever be grateful that she brought the program into public hospitals and made it free to access.
The program helped immensely, I am pretty sure I would have been an absolute mess without it. The program helped not only with the birth but also dealing with the pregnancy up to the birth and is still helping now after. There are parts of the program that I think I will practice for a long time to come and I am so incredibly grateful that I had to opportunity to complete the program.
My birth didn’t go how I had planned it in my head, there were a few complications along the way but in the end I birthed a beautiful healthy baby boy and at the end of the day that is all that matters. Using what I had learnt in the program I was able to stay relaxed and calm and made very informed decisions.
I really hope that this program remains part of the antenatal care in all public hospitals across WA and more midwives get involved in the Positive Birth Program as I believe it makes a massive difference having a calm and relaxing environment to birth a baby.
