My very anxious daughter fell at football recently and I suspected had broken her arm. She was extremely nervous and scared due to hearing recent bad press regarding the hospital.
Upon arrival, I felt the triage nurse took exceptional care with her - we were fortunate that it seemingly wasn't busy and that she was able to assess her quickly and thoroughly. What resonated to me as her mother and also a nurse, was the connection that the triage nurse made with her by addressing her and answering all of her questions, even the uncomfortable ones.
We were again very fortunate to go straight through to the fast track area where we had a very small wait until we were seen by both the clerk and then not long after that, the doctor. Reiterating that I believe it wasn't a busy night and that I understand that acuity and activity would impact the timeliness with in which we were seen, I feel the care that we were provided by the nurse, doctor, clerk and then the radiographer was fantastic.
My daughter was able to freely ask her questions and I felt they all responded in a calm and respectful manner. The time taken flew by and we were out, plastered up and back in the car within 2 hours.
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all involved in the recent catastrophic events the media reported at PCH but also to assure the public that, in my opinion, the paediatric team at PCH are exceptional in their care, kindness and compassion.
