A few months ago, I had spinal surgery at St George Public Hospital in Sydney. My surgeon was Dr Martin, highly recommended by my Rheumatologist Prof, Marissa.
Prof Marissa, after extensive examination of my condition, was instrumental in persuading me to accept surgery given the alternative of the condition deteriorating with age.
I could not have wished for a better outcome from the decompression & fusion operation carried out by Dr Martin & his very efficient team.
At my initial consultation with Dr Martin, he was most supportive of my decision to finally go ahead with an operation (after I'd suffered from sciatica nearly 20 years); he repeatedly left the decision to accept an operation to me (knowing that I'd avoided invasive treatment for those same 20 years).
The hospital experience over 5 days was of the highest quality: both hospital staff--nurses, catering staff, ancillary staff-- & Dr Martin's team visited me frequently to assure me that pre-op I was in the best of hands, and that post-op the surgery had been most successful. Dr Martin actually visited me in the ward the morning after the previous day's late afternoon surgery: this cheered me no end.
Dr Martin has since informed me that recent x-rays of my spine as well as my feeling 100% improved, confirmed his opinion that the operation was most successful and that I'd made the correct decision to undergo same.
He has already scheduled a near future CT scan to be assured that my rehabilitation is still improving at the rate it has thus far.
