"Team midwifery program"

About: Osborne Park Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

When deciding on the care available to me during pregnancy I started researching on how I was able to have a continuity of care through the public system and luckily I was in the catchment for OPH and saw on their website that they offered the Team Midwifery Program.

I self referred to the program at my first appointment and I am so glad I was aware that this program was available to me. I saw the same midwife (Cheyanne) for all but two of my appointments and it was so nice to have the same person majority of the time. She kept my mind at ease with any questions and worries I had and also very supportive of the birth I had hoped for. Unfortunately Cheyanne was not on shift when I gave birth but luckily she was working when I was on the ward and she was able to meet the bub she cared for while in my belly.

The day I gave birth I was lucky enough to have Sophie working that day and although I had not met Sophie before I believe you can tell the team are all on the same page and I received the same amazing care as I was receiving during my antenatal appointments. She was such a wonderful support during my labour and although the birth didn't end up how I had hoped and I required intervention to safely deliver, Dr Arvind listened to mine and my husband's concerns. We were reassured that we had made the right decision for both baby and I, and were happy with the care received.

My only criticism during the birth was when an epidural was requested, there were multiple calls asking where the doctor was and they were told the doctor was on their way but this went on for quite some time and we could not be given an ETA or straight answer on how long. Other than that, I can't fault the care I received.

I highly recommend anyone who is going to give birth at OPH to request the Team Midwifery program for your care.

Dear snowdh39,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) and the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP). I would like to congratulate you on the birth of your baby!

We are incredibly proud of the support and service that our MGP team provides to our patients. I am so glad to hear that you had such a positive experience with Cheyanne and Sophie, despite Cheyanne being away on the day you gave birth. WNHS would certainly like to expand the MGP service for our families in the future as our numbers grow so that more women in the community can access care from the same small group of midwives for the duration of their pregnancy, labour and birth and in the postnatal period.

I am sorry to hear that a doctor was not available when your epidural was requested. Feedback such as yours is important to enable us to continually review and make changes to the way provide health care to our patients.

Thank you for sharing your story. Once again, congratulations to you and your family, I wish you all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Jodi Graham
