"Negative experiences with emergency department"

About: The Prince Charles Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

So on 2 occasions I feel I have been failed by the Prince Charles Emergency Department. First was in 2019 when they took 4 months to figure out I had cancer and kept sending me home even with high inflammation markers.

The most recent one I attended the emergency room via ambulance due to severe stomach pain. They did a scan due to my history but the issue was they didn't do a pregnancy test prior to the scan which I understand they are meant to for good reason.

A few weeks later I went to my GP after having 2 positive join tests and the blood test also showed I was definitely pregnant. I am now concerned at what that scan could have done to my unborn child. They had done bloods and a urine sample so I question why a pregnancy test wasn't done prior. I had assumed they did because they have always done so in the past.

As I understand it, the person who did the scan didn't even check to see if they did and just assumed they did and turns out they hadn't or they would have known I was pregnant and that was the cause of my pain.

Extremely upset and have little to no trust in the emergency department there due to the terrible experiences I have had. I will although say when I had my bowel resection surgery there the surgeon was amazing as were the staff who cared for me as I recovered. My only issue is with the emergency department and how they do their job. In my opinion, it's not good enough.
