As part of a volunteer team at Albany Health Campus, I became aware of the actions of a Quick Response Team to an unplanned event.
Without my awareness, the special needs patient I was spending time with, and I, became surrounded by a group of four people - two orderlies and two mental health staff.
It was carried out with so much professionalism - quiet, gently, in control, yet without any fuss or potential increase in distress for the patient.
To me, it just felt like the passageway we were walking along had become crowded! Yet these dedicated staff created an atmosphere of calm control.
After chatting and an explanation given, and realisation everything was actually OK, the patient and I continued on for our coffee at the cafe. I felt the patient was not at all distress by this event.
How fortunate is our community to have staff with so much compassion and the skills to meet particular, and often, challenging needs.
"Compassionate professional care"
