"Emergency department"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I presented to Sale emergency with extreme vital sign issues and chest pain. I explained to the staff I had a pre-existing cardiac condition, well I believe that fell on deaf ears. After being sat in the waiting room for 3 hours I saw a doctor who I think got their degree from a cereal box because, in my opinion, they blamed everything on, you're stressed, you’re nervous, it’s just your head playing games, and I felt refused to listen to me.

In the end I walked out and went home which I then called my cardiologist who had, I believe, a fit at what had happened. I saw my regular GP the following day and it turns out I had an air embolism but that’s not possible cause supposedly it was all in my head.

Dear listenqp66,

My name is Frank Evans and I am the CEO of Central Gippsland Health.

I am very concerned to read your story since what you describe is a major deviation from the detailed procedure we have in place with regard to patients coming to our ED with chest pain.

It is very important that we follow our procedure closely since chest pain can be a very serious symptom of heart disease and other health conditions.

As such, we have instigated a detailed review of our procedures and an evaluation of how they are being implemented in our ED.

It would be very helpful to our review if we could specifically look into what happened for you. Please don’t feel any pressure to make contact if you’d rather not, but if you’re happy to, my email address is frank.evans@cghs.com.au or phone 03 5143 8661.

I hope to hear from you and I hope you are doing okay.

Kind regards,

Frank Evans
