"COVID Vaccine"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital

(as a service user),

I had an adverse event following my first astrazenica vaccination. This was reported and I was told by the consultant at Fiona Stanley Hospital to follow up with my GP after staying for a night.

My GP has no idea what to do for my second dose especially now it's not recommended for under 50s. I sent emails to WAVSS who said to contact my GP. My GP has no idea what to do for the second dose or whether I can swap to Pfizer. I contacted the COVID line who, as I understand it, said they can't help and don't know who can - they gave me the outpatients direct number which I feel is useless as I have no appointments.

In my opinion, the system is disjointed. I believe no one takes responsibility or ownership and it leads to people like me trying to just get vaccinated completely unable to move forward.

If hospitals, the covid vaccination system, GPs, WAVSS and the public have no idea what's happening why would they keep trying.

Dear humanitiessf64,

Thank you for reaching out to us via Care Opinion. I can appreciate your frustration regarding access to information during the evolving roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination program.

Fiona Stanley Hospital only administers the Pfizer vaccine, and has never administered the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Current Australian guidelines do not recommend switching vaccines. There is a wealth of helpful COVID-19 vaccination information available here: https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Coronavirus/COVID19-vaccine/FAQs.

If you contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (6152 4013) they can transfer you to the Fiona Stanley Hospital Nurse Coordinator, COVID-19 Vaccination Program, who has advised he will be happy to assist you to navigate the system and work out where to from here.

Thank you and regards,

Neil Doverty

Group Executive Director

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.
