"My Birthing Experience"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

My husband and I had checked at the hospital (Karratha Health Campus) to be induced and we had settled into our room. My husband had set up the roll-out sofa/bed and made the bed for himself to sleep on. My husband left the hospital to get pizza for our dinner so I was alone in the room.

A night shift midwife entered the room and there was no hello, good evening, how are you etc. They asked me in a loud voice if that bed was set up for my husband. I replied "Yes".

They said they hoped he wasn't going to sleep the whole time he was here and that they do that sometimes!

I thought that was quite rude, no introduction or greeting at all.

Hi gatesy79,

We really value your feedback at Karratha Health Campus and we thank you for taking the time to do so. Stories like yours help us improve our daily practices.

I am very sorry to hear of your experience, this doesn’t adhere to our WACHS values of compassion and quality. This serves our team as a reminder in being able to adhere and instill these values in the care of every patient. Our maternity team have received a fresh reminder on the WACHS values and I do hope this ensures other families don’t experience the treatment you described.

We hope that you and your husband are settling into parenthood well and congratulations on the new arrival.

Kind regards

Lisa Smith
