"Wait time at pathology"

About: PathWest Belmont Collection Centre

(as the patient),

I believe there is not enough staff at the Path West Collection Centre in Belmont WA. I arrived for blood collection shortly after the Path West collection centre in Belmont WA re-opened after lunch one day recently. There was one person already being treated in the clinic and I was the only person in the wait room on arrival. The one person left a few minutes after I arrived. I then proceeded to wait a further several minutes until the lovely centre worker called me for my test.

At this stage there were a few more people in the waiting room. The staff member (I can't recall their name) was absolutely lovely and apologised for the wait, but they had to take a phone call. I asked if they were the only person working there and they were. They said it was difficult when people were waiting if they had to take phone calls, or had a patient that became unwell as they couldn't leave them. I believe just one more staff member would have meant that while one was taking a call, the other can see to patients.

Honestly, considering I was the second person there after opening the doors, I felt to still be there more than half an hour later is really poor. I believe it's not any fault of the staff who was holding the fort down. They're trying to see to patients and field the telephone all by themself, and then, I understand, deal with angry or annoyed people because they've had to wait. In my opinion, it's not fair on them and not good enough for staff and patients.

Hello polarissg35,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience when attending our PathWest Belmont Collection centre. I am sorry that you had to wait for an extended period of time but am pleased to hear the staff member on duty was both professional and polite throughout your visit.

Whilst mornings are consistently busy at collection centres afternoon numbers vary significantly and appropriate staffing numbers can be difficult to match.

We consistently seek feedback from both our staff and customers in an effort to improve our collection service and we appreciate you taking the time to contact us through the Care Opinion site. In our next review of the Belmont service we will include your feedback and investigate any new afternoon trends.

I can assure you that PathWest takes the wellbeing of our staff and customers very seriously and are committed to providing a safe supportive work environment and positive patient experience.

Should you wish to discuss the matter further, please feel free to contact Chantelle Thomas (A/Manager of Specimen Collection) who is responsible for this service on:
