"Hospital stay on the way home"

About: Southern Cross Health Service / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

While making the thousand km drive home my partner started having chest pains, we had no idea why but we were worried it could be his heart, so we stopped at Southern Cross Hospital. We were seen straight away by two nurses who called the GP promptly. Every test and step that was carried out was explained promptly, clearly and to both of us.

They decided to keep my partner overnight, I felt the night nurse was lovely and being 100s of kms from home, at my partner's request, I was allowed to stay with him throughout the whole night. We were given aftercare advice and tablets to see us through until we could get through to our gp and a thorough hand-over for our own gp. They were amazing!

Dear blackbirdjs94,

Thank you for your lovely feedback regarding your overnight stay at Southern Cross Hospital.

I sincerely hope your partner has fully recovered now you are back home.

It is difficult when travelling long distances to get home, but the addition of developing chest pains on route is very stressful. I was pleased to see that both your partner and you received safe quality and timely care as an inpatient and were given appropriate care and instructions on discharge. The team at Southern Cross pride themselves on this comprehensive care for their patients.

I will also pass on your kind words to the GP and the nursing team, as I know they will appreciate that what they do every day is valued.

Kind Regards,

Karen Horsley
