"Parking"

About: Perth Children's Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

I arrived half an hour early for my child’s appointment and was disgusted that the entry to underground parking was blocked from one direction and one lane was blocked from entering the parking!

I feel the mental stress caused by parking at PCH is phenomenal and I believe something needs to be done immediately! This is a hospital not a shopping centre. We have to be here! In my opinion, parking costs are unbelievable and it seems none of the money goes back into the hospital. I feel the Council are greedy and need to take a good look at themselves.

This is not a new issue and I believe things are going from bad to worse, please do something!

Dear StressedMum76,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on the Care Opinion website. I am truly sorry to hear of the distress that you and other families are continuing to experience in regards to the cost and lack of available parking on the hospital site and the significant impact it is causing.

I have escalated your concerns to the QEII Medical Centre Trust who are responsible for parking management across both hospital campuses and they also provide their apologies for the difficulties this has caused you and other families and visitors to the hospital.

For the safety of all families and the general public who use the surrounding roads in this area, parking management and any road closures or redirection on Hospital Avenue are taken very seriously and have an approved Traffic Management Plan in place. On occasion, the Parking Officers are sometimes required to reduce the entry into the carpark to one lane when the carpark is full to prevent cars from queuing at the entrance and overflowing into Hospital Avenue, which can cause congestion and danger for road users and pedestrians. In these situations, Parking Officers do their best to safely redirect traffic onto nearby roads to access alternative parking options.

The maximum number of parking spaces allowed on site are limited by the requirements outlined by the State Government. The QEII Medical Centre Trust is, however, currently in discussions with a number of agencies to try and address this to reduce the stress being felt by patients, families and visitors.

Following your feedback, the Parking Team will review their processes for redirecting cars during busy times to ensure that drivers are clear about alternative parking options and that consistent directions are given.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback and raising these important concerns. Again I apologise for the difficulties that you have experienced in parking on site but please be reassured that you have been heard and actions are being taken to try to improve the situation. If you have any future queries relating to parking on the site, please email: Parking.QEII@health.wa.gov.au.

Kind regards,

Matthew Holmes
