"Lack of social distancing and sign-in in waiting room"

About: Sale Hospital

(as the patient),

I had an appt at CGH consulting rooms recently. On arrival there was no QR Code or pen and paper available to sign-in, and heard by staff talking to another patient I believe, that they were waiting on it being delivered from the main part of the hospital. While in the waiting room I was horrified to watch it filling up well past the covid-19 restrictions in my opinion. I believe there were 22 people in the small waiting room on one count.

I am horrified that a hospital would not have a QR code or sign-in sheet available, as well as, I felt, putting their patients at risk.

It made me feel uneasy and quite discouraged that in my opinion, our local hospital doesn't seem to care about patient and staff welfare.

Dear composermg85,

My name is Melissa and I am the Manager of the Consulting Suites.

We are very appreciative of the time you’ve taken to provide us with your feedback, and we are very sorry for the concern that you experienced in relation to your visit.

Whilst we have some processes in place, your experience shows us that we need to revisit this again to ensure our staff and patients are kept safe.

Our health service is required to adhere to directives as they are released from the Department of Health. As these directives are made known to us, the required changes are implemented across all our sites.

For some time, a process has been in place for staff to screen patients on arrival. In addition to this, QR Codes for sign-in were displayed within 24 hours of the most recent directive.

Our staff also endeavour to monitor the number of people in the waiting room. To support this, we have reduced the number of chairs in the space.

We also acknowledge that at busier times, there can be a larger number of people waiting to check-in or out of the building. To streamline this process, we have incorporated screening questions into the check-in process with staff, to minimise the need for patients to linger in the waiting area.

Please be assured that we care very much about the safety of our staff and patients and it’s important to us that we get this process right.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me at Melissa.schipper@cghs.com.au or on (03) 5143 8939.

Thank you

Melissa
