Firstly, the medical care was friendly and first rate, as were the staff distributing food. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the cleaning staff allocated to my room were neither. In a 9 day visit, I would have expected my room to have been swept and mopped at least 9 times. As I was in the room 24/7, I was surprised to note the room was swept twice and mopped twice over those 9 days. The toilets were cleaned intermittently and waste bins not always emptied daily.
My concern would be that I would hope that a proper clean would be done between clients, or else disease spread could occur - potentially disastrous.
Secondly, as I understand it, one-on-one care wasn't always available for high dependency dementia clients at night, leading to four occasions when such a client got lost and appeared in my room. Whilst only startling me, I think the real problem is the potential for tripping in such clients, with the expected legal comebacks, which I believe would be way more expensive than providing 24/7 one-on-one service personnel.
Hopefully, rapid improvements in both these areas can be implemented.
