Recently, I took my child to their appointment with the hope of discussing their current medication and the possibility of other options. We were greeted by, I felt, a very unfriendly clinician. We spoke about how maybe my child's current medication was not effective as it used to be.
I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable and that I was harming my child by suggesting this, but I made it clear more than once that I wasn't asking them to increase the dosage. The clinician suggested a different medication. I asked about side effects and how the new medication would/could affect my child. The clinician responded with what I felt was disgust that I was questioning them. Even suggesting that, as I recall, the alternative was going to cause them a stroke.
The previous process with having this type of script filled was to have it sent to Perth. When I asked if I needed to do the same with this script, again I felt I was given an attitude and an I-don't-know answer.
We were asked to visit a GP weekly to monitor the new medication and I commented that getting an appointment may be tricky. Once again, I felt I was given attitude and questioning about there being 3 clinics in town and that it can't be that hard.
We left the appointment with a script for new medication, which I may not be able to fill in town, I felt no questions answered and the feeling all my concerns were dismissed as being ridiculous.
