I came to BCH 4 weeks pregnant as I wanted to have care from an obstetrician and midwife team after experiencing 3 previous losses.
I felt the care I had was exceptional, and not only did they focus on my and my babies physical health everyone took interest in my mental health too.
Between 4-38 weeks I felt cared for as a individual patient and not just a number.
Toby and Sarah my main obstetrics Drs throughout answered all questions and took adequate time to put my mind at ease several times. I felt the midwives were also wonderful. Amie and Maddie who delivered my baby were incredible not leaving my side during the birth, so supportive. In my opinion, all the midwives are great people who show a huge amount of care and support.
The post natal care I’ve had from the team of MCHN has also been excellent with a special mention to Allyson who made me feel a lot more confident than I felt on certain days being a new mum. She also helped me with my breast feeding journey, if it had not been for her I probably would of given up. We are now nearly 10 weeks in and going strong.
One of my suggestions is that perhaps all of the team are on the same page when it comes to breast feeding support, or there is a designated LC available, as I felt it varied from shift to shift and there was a lack of consistency to really nail this part of motherhood before leaving for home.
Overall I have only positive things to say about BCH & the maternity ward team, my only disappointment is that whilst the professional support is great, I was counting on being offered a community mother’s group. My baby is more than two months old and I still don’t have a group of other first time mums to meet up with and have support. It would be great if this happened soon.
