Took my adult child to Rockingham hospital recently.
They had shortness of breath and heart palpitations. The triage nurse was great, she was concerned enough to send my child in right away.
As I understand it, they were not busy and most of the staff on in the evening were student nurses (they were brilliant). In my opinion, the doctor, on the other hand, was rude and came in with an attitude.
They shoved the curtains wide open did not say who they were and then left. Leaving the curtains wide open while my child was in the middle of changing (no privacy).
My child was put on an EEG machine that ran for 1 min. Given that it is medically noted that to get a good reading, it has to run 5-10 minutes as I understand it.
The doctor came back in said it’s nothing to be worried about. And said as my child was aware of the sudden hard heartbeat, they were focused on it and basically told my child it was in their head.
3 times the doctor was told there is a history of heart problems in the family. In fact, 3 members have or had heart problems. The doctor seemingly dismissed this information and said nothing we can do just don’t think about it. Not giving my child any reason why their heart would do this. Even after told when my child is moving around their heart rate can go up to 150 beats. Way too high.
I think they can’t be bothered doing more tests and the doctor’s attitude - in my opinion, the doctor needs to learn bedside manner. They did say if my child was older they would look into it more. They are in their 30s - how old is old enough for them to do more tests?
Sent us home. My child's heart rate was still high. When do we go back when told to stop thinking about it. Maybe bypassing Rockingham hospital and going to another hospital is the way to go. At least they have, in my opinion, doctors that care.
