Had a scheduled c-section at Blacktown hospital a couple of months ago.
In my opinion, the antenatal clinic doctors were great. I had some complications and had regular appointments throughout. There is a bit of a wait to see doctors at the clinic but I believe that’s no different to any specialist appointment.
I felt the whole c-section process was great, couldn’t fault the doctors or midwives at all. I got plenty of notice for my date and when it needed to be moved up earlier I got a confirmation date a week out.
They had a skin to skin midwife for the c-section and while I can’t remember her name, I felt she was wonderful. She introduced herself prior to the c-section and stayed during and in recovery.
The c-section itself was calm and they had a screen so I could see baby while he was being measured and weighed etc.
Maternity was great overall, in my opinion some of the nurses seemed overworked but I believe they did their best. Most rooms were single, I had a double room for the first night but was moved to a single room after that which we were grateful for as we were there for 4 nights.
We were quite worried to give birth at Blacktown after all the negative media but I couldn’t fault the process at all.
