"Assisting an older person to access residential aged care"

About: Merredin Hospital (Aged Care) Wheatbelt Health

(as a staff member),

I am a support worker and my story is about assisting an older person to access residential aged care. There were some issues in this person's background that made it challenging for them to be accepted by residential aged care facilities. Mr Christopher Cox, Director of Nursing at Merredin hospital was incredibly helpful and considerate of this individual's needs. Mr Cox made enquiries with several facilities in the Wheatbelt region, and I felt he went above and beyond to assist this person. It was very heartening to know that a health professional was sympathetic to this individual's needs and I am very appreciative of the support.

Dear eaterxq83,

Thank you for your appreciative feedback regarding Mr Christopher Cox’s helpfulness and support for a person who was requiring residential care.

We encourage all our staff to undertake patient centred care and I was heartened to hear that Chris has led by example in this case. I will pass on your thanks to him and encourage him to share your story with the rest of the team at Merredin hospital.

I do sincerely hope that this person has now found appropriate accommodation and care to enable best quality of life

Kind Regards

Karen Horsley
