"Denial of 2nd COVID Vaccination"

About: St George Hospital COVID Vaccine Hub

(as the patient),

I had my first covid vaccination at another location and then registered by the booking system to have my 2nd at my local hospital - St George Hospital.

I was told to go back to that vaccination location and that they could not accommodate me at my own local hospital. They said I would be turned away if I turned up for the appointment that took me so long to obtain through the very poor booking system. Even after explaining that I was unable to get to the other vaccination location and would not be able to access my 2nd dose, they responded with, I felt, total disregard for my feelings or situation. I then received an email that they had cancelled my appointment on my behalf even though I had not requested this.

I feel so disappointed in my local health system and I was so depressed over what happened at St George and particularly the way I felt the staff addressed me down, proceeded to cancel my appointment and violated my rights by making me feel like a non-human.

I have friends and relatives who have been able to receive their injections at different sites so I know that this is not policy. What kind of policy turns away their own local community and denies access to a vaccine, that the government continuously advertises as essential for the survival of the Australian people and their livelihood is, based on my experience, a total fail. People have died and the majority of Australians still have not been vaccinated whilst the virus rampages through our system. Another failure in my opinion. I feel it makes me ashamed to be an Australian.

I have raised this issue with higher levels of authority seeking resolution and an apology by the staff member and supervisor in question.
