"Chemotherapy treatment delays"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Outpatients & Day Treatment

(as a service user),

Treatment delays due to approval and late VC appointments. I am very disappointed with the fact that there are only two chemotherapy chairs at Karratha health campus (KHC). I feel you are constrained by the amount of patients they can book in on the days that you can receive chemotherapy. This impacts on my life and the fact that I can not plan ahead as I feel there is no certainty of your appointment time and day. I believe if Karratha Health campus could get more chemotherapy chairs and more trained nurses and be open more than three days a week, this would benefit so many people in my opinion. I had no communication with any staff from Oncologist or staff at KHC in regards to the delay in my treatment and only found out after a 40min delay for VC appointment.

The chemotherapy nurses are amazing and I think would be as frustrated as some of their patients are.

Dear atlast57,

Thank you for raising your concerns with us. I am sorry that you are unwell and that you have suffered treatment delays. As you can appreciate as a remote service, it is essential that your Oncologist and the treating team are able to facilitate your optimal treatment. When there are changes to treatment, your Perth-based Oncologist will communicate these changes to you.

I have raised your concerns with Cherelle Fitzclarence, our Senior Medical Officer at Karratha Health Campus, who would be very happy to address your concerns and others if you have them, in person. I invite you to please contact Cherelle on Cherelle.Fitzclarence@health.wa.gov.au.

Kind Regards,

Lisa Smith
