My 3-month-old son was admitted to hospital after presenting to ED with a high temperature.
Firstly, the emergency department staff were amazing. I was seen to straight away and offered food and drink. My son was well looked after and even I was looked after - the nurses took my son with them in his pram with his IV fluids in tow and pushed him to occupy him and help him to sleep while I got some well-needed rest. Not being parents themselves, I imagine they have no idea how much this act of kindness was essential for me and how it made the world of difference for my own mental well-being.
Secondly, the paediatric team were equally as amazing. We were there a few days/nights and they were nothing but caring and supportive. Lastly, a special mention to the lady that came around daily to organise meal orders. I can’t eat dairy and she was more than accommodating and although I felt like a burden, she made sure I wasn’t. She was friendly and a real delight to deal with, I enjoyed her presence in the ward at mealtimes.
