"Birth experience / food services"

About: Sale Hospital / Women's and Children's

(as the patient),

I came into the ED in the early morning having very regular contractions.

The staff were fantastic and I was dealt with ASAP - my baby's birth was fantastic, I was in control and left to do my own thing (obviously with my fantastic midwives help - Anna, Linda & Allie)

The only downside about my experience was once my baby was born, within a couple hours of arriving - I obviously hadn't had a menu put in for breakfast (or any food for that matter) so all I could be offered was a few tea sandwiches, which were fine but definitely not sufficient enough after giving birth not eating since dinner the night before and to last me until lunch. So slightly disappointed in that regard.

Other than that, the care has been amazing and I can not fault any of the midwives that have been caring for us during our stay.

Dear talondb86

My name is Cherie Campbell and I am the Executive Director of Corporate Services at Central Gippsland Health.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, it is disappointing to learn that this was your experience.

I am pleased to advise that we are currently reviewing our menus and patient ordering processes. As a result, we will be implementing an electronic system improving cut-off times and menu options for our patients. We hope that this change will ensure that this situation is not repeated.

Congratulations on the addition to your family and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Regards

Cherie Campbell

Dear talond86,

My name is Mandy Pusmucans and I am the Director of Nursing at Sale Hospital. Thank you for sharing your story and at such an exciting and busy time of life with a new baby.

Your positive experience of caring is what we continually strive for as a team here at Central Gippsland Health. I will certainly pass your thanks on to Tom who is the Nurse Manager of the ED team, and to Kim the Nurse Manager of the Women’s and Childrens Unit. And especially to midwives Anna, Linda and Allie.

I can see that Cherie has provided you some feedback in relation to the meals. I know that her team are working hard to improve this aspect.

I hope that this response finds you and your little baby well and I wish you all happiness into the future.

Again, thank you for your story.

Kind regards

Mandy

Dear talon86,

My name is Kim Costin and I am a Nurse Unit Manager on the Women’s and Children's unit. Thank you for taking time to provide feedback- it has provided an opportunity to reflect on what we have done well and on areas for improvement.

I have taken the opportunity of sharing your story with the team and pleasure in passing on your gratitude to Anna, Linda, Allie, and the rest of the team for their part in providing care that has supported you through your birth and helped you to achieve what you have describe as a fantastic birthing experience. Our team certainly strives for excellent care. Our teams value your feedback that has led to improvement within our service.

I am pleased to report that in response to your feedback that changes have been implemented. Whilst we await the full implementation of the new electronic system that Cherie has advised of in her response, we have arranged through food service team that we have additional meals available for patients that present after our cut off for meal time ordering. I trust these changes will prevent any reoccurrence of your situation.

I hope you have settled in well at home with your new baby and wish you and your family the very best.

Kindest Regards,

Kim
