"Baby burned his hand"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

My son decided to do a speedy dash to touch the fireplace and ended up with second degree burns on his hand. We were directed by urgent care to go to ED, and so went to PCH emergency for the first time.

We were triaged quickly, directed to a space for more first aid to be applied, and then seen by a lovely Dr J, a plastics Dr and two very lovely nurses who, I felt, were all kind, understanding and excellent with communicating the processes. I believe there was no judgement on us (apart from us to ourselves!) and ongoing compassion and consideration for us as parents, as well as with my son who was overtired and very active/resistant!

When I raised a concern about some medication, it was responded to and addressed quickly and professionally, and we were booked in for the clinic easily and given directions for when we would come.

Overall, it was a great experience for a distressing moment, and exceeded my expectations of hospitals in general.

Dear aurigaek35,

Thank you for writing to Care Opinion to share your positive experience at the Perth Children’s Hospital.

The Child and Adolescent Health Service is a values-based organisation with Accountability, Excellence, Respect, Equity, Collaboration and Compassion being our core values. The staff at PCH are encouraged to live these values each and every day, and we are extremely happy to hear that our staff have gone above and beyond in supporting your family and making your experience with us less stressful.

I will have pleasure in passing on your kind words and praise to the staff in the Emergency Department, as I know they will appreciate this feedback. Staff at PCH strive to provide the highest quality of health care for their patients and their families, and I was delighted to see this reflected in your experience.

Thank you once again for sharing your feedback, and please accept my best wishes for your child in their recovery.

Kind regards,

Debbie Chiffings
