"Incredibly bad care"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Acute Ward Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Pretty disgusted in Wonthaggi Hospital. I had been very unwell for 7 days before attending the hospital. On advice on any worsening breathing symptoms by my doc to attend ED, I sucked it up and went in.

Obviously did covid tests before attending. Did my absolute best at home for a week running sometimes above 40-degree temps and too many symptoms to name. Had family begging all week for me to go to the hospital.

Firstly I’m not quite sure why there seems to be only one doctor I have come across in the entire hospital that can use an ultrasound machine to put a drip in for difficult veins. Sadly I cannot time when I get sick and that one Doctor be on.

I felt I was lied to twice about them coming to put a drip in. Maybe train one or two doctors to use the machine. They told me I needed IV antibiotics but would not persist and get a drip in, to give the medication I needed. There were blood cultures, swabs done. Something I guess.

Got moved to the ward but the next morning a very, I felt, rude and no bedside matter Doctor come in possibly for 2 minutes if that, said swabs etc are not back but I will put you on an antibiotic, that covers nearly everything you go home. I felt they cut me off immediately when I simply just started to tell them when I got sick etc.

I believe they had no idea how long, or the progression of whatever the heck I have and the symptoms because they left the room with no info. Mind you I was feeling even worse since arrival. What an absolute joke. I asked for a copy of whatever bloods had come back as my doc had tried 2 types of antibiotics with no effect. Pretty simple request I felt, which I was denied and told to look them up online. Which I’ve been unsuccessful in being able to do. I felt they only cared about making another appointment with my GP who has been amazing and prescribing antis all week. Be very interested to speak with them in the morning. Where is any care or compassion in this hospital? I have seen so little every single time I have attended.

In my opinion, you guys are too busy keeping your beds clear in case of a possible covid outbreak that I believe has never even occurred, that the health of other patients is incredibly terrible and negligent? I mean come on Wonthaggi.

I’m definitely concerned about my temp which for 8 days has been very high and my breathing is poor. I’m not quite sure why in the world they would discharge somebody staggering to walk and breathe. Walking out I had to use all my concentration as my body is that weak and shaking and head spinning out when walking. Spoke to multiple nurses on the ward about my concern of my state of health, was not being addressed at all.

Asked why the discharge form was incorrect and I didn’t have what they stated I had on it. I believe it was never changed nor followed up on. Had, I felt, very silly and inappropriate comments made by some nursing staff in the ward. So uniformed unprofessional as nurses.

As I literally walked out, beds were empty everywhere I looked. So obviously beds are not an issue. My feelings, well I felt completely ignored, upset leaving feeling worse than when I arrived, absolutely disappointed in your staff actions and words. Silly your doctors cannot use basic ultrasound machines, based on my experience. Disgusted on a human level of the treatment of the Discharge Doctor. Piss poor, I could not get a copy of MY bloods. Overall upset and concerned for myself and all others that are attending this hospital as I am bewildered at how sick you are sending people like me home and the state others are probably in. And you might want to feed your patients as well, pretty simple to throw them some food.

And one more thing, maybe when giving somebody a seriously powerful antibiotic to treat the plague maybe inform them of the side effects as by god 2 minute online looking at the medication, yes the leaflet we were once given not a random site, I found I cannot even take it.

I was obviously having side effects from the one tablet you had given me all night. I told multiple nurses overnight how I was feeling. Why was the side effect not looked at? Negligence I feel.

Once I get my GP to actually get my bloods and swab results from this hospital and get their advice, I will be taking this further to an Exec or complaints department. I feel enough is enough.

Based on my experience, you are failing patient's care and needs and should be ashamed and stop flexing online that this hospital is sooooo good as in my opinion, it’s negligent and not treating normal virus and infections.
