"Recent session"

About: Armadale Hospital / Outpatients Clinic

(as the patient),

I had a session scheduled for mid-morning recently. The clinician started the session almost 10 minutes late and ended the session 15 minutes before the hour.

Throughout the session, they were sneezing and touched me without sanitising after. They didn't wear a mask and I felt very uncomfortable throughout.

Overall, I wasn't happy with the session. So, I filled the feedback form and left it at the reception. I received a call from the management later that day to discuss my experience. They said that the clinician had a viral fever that wasn't contagious so I should be good. They also said that the session need not last 1 hour as it was free and I hadn't paid for it. I feel this is ridiculous and not acceptable. I felt my concerns were outright disregarded.

I am not sure if this is the right forum but I wanted to share my experience so that the right actions are taken, and no one else suffers like me.

Dear chassisqp75,

Thank you for sharing your experience and observations during a recent outpatient appointment at Armadale Health Service (AHS).

I am sorry to hear of the frustration you experienced in relation to the timeliness of your scheduled appointment. As a result of your feedback a reminder has been sent to all our Allied Health staff regarding the importance of effective communication with our patients, particularly when a delay occurs.

Please let me assure you that the safety of our staff and patients is our highest priority. I acknowledge the worry and concern which you would have felt during the situation you have described, however I can confirm that a thorough investigation was completed by the Director of Allied Health Service to ensure that the clinician involved was not in attendance at work with an infectious illness.

I would like to reassure you that it has been reiterated to staff of their requirement to ensure they are complying with PPE guidelines, including hand hygiene. I can also advise that following receipt of your feedback a review of the placement of hand sanitiser dispensers was conducted, and we have subsequently arranged for further dispensers to be ordered to ensure one is readily available in each patient assessment cubicle.

Once again I would like to thank you for contacting us and sharing your experience. Constructive feedback such as yours provides us with the opportunity to reflect on our daily practices and make necessary service improvements including the ones I have outlined.

Kind regards

Di Barr
