"Midwifery appointment"

About: Angliss Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I recently had my midwifery appointment at 29 weeks. The midwife asked if I had the flu jab, and I said no. I felt the midwife pretty much demanded that I go and get it. After that, I believe the midwife didn’t want to touch me, they seemingly didn’t even want to take a sticker out of my midwifery book.

I’ve cut down with my smoking and my other midwives have said I’m doing great but this midwife only suggested that I need to stop. When I lay down on the bed I was told I’m measuring 31 weeks but I wasn’t told why. I don’t know if this is a good thing or bad.

I recall, the midwife asked where I’m giving birth and I said another hospital and they said oh why not here, and I said that’s not your business. I felt they were being really rude and like they didn’t want to touch me. The midwife made me feel really awful. I just don’t want other women to have to go through that if they don’t want to get the flu jab.

Dear mineraljc98

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience when attending your antenatal appointment with one of the Eastern Health midwives at the Angliss Hospital.

I'm sorry your experience was not a positive one and you were left with these feelings post your visit.

I will share your comments with the manager of this service so they can use it as a learning experience for all staff. Eastern Health are proud of the values we have being Patients First, Kindness, Excellence, Respect, Agility and Humility. All staff strive each and every day to do this, but on occasions we don't get all quite right.

I trust your antenatal care is going well otherwise and you have received the information you've stated was missing.

Kind regards and best wishes.

David
