We were camping in Margaret River and my 14-month-old son pulled a boiling cup of tea on himself. We immediately took him to Margaret River Hospital and received excellent first care there. The doctor and nurses helped us to cool the burn in the shower and sent photos of the burn to Perth Children’s Hospital. It was decided we would need to get up there and they organised the royal flying doctor to take us.
Unfortunately, this fell through time and time again so eventually, with our full support, we decided to get on an ambulance to another hospital, with the plan to get another ambulance from there to Perth when available. I knew it would be a horrible night but I just wanted to be up in Perth where they could care for my son as well as possible.
The doctor who was in charge at Margaret River tried SO hard to get us on a plane and I appreciate his efforts immensely. The nurses were so kind to me (I was obviously distraught) and they even offered me some pizza that they had ordered during their break. So nice because I would not have eaten until well into the next day if this hadn’t been offered. My experience at Margaret River was nothing but amazing. I unfortunately, didn’t catch any names of the staff but the incident happened earlier this year.
Once we were in Perth, we were there for 5 nights and everyone we dealt with there was top notch. The consultant was there every morning to check on my son and the nursing staff were exemplary. My son and my family had been through a lot but the staff were so lovely and helpful.
"Nothing but amazing care"
