During a recent camping trip, my child who’s a toddler, pulled a boiling cup of tea on themselves. We immediately took them to the nearby hospital and received excellent first care there. The doctor and nurses helped us to cool the burn in the shower and sent photos of the burn to Perth Children’s Hospital. It was decided we would need to get up there and they organised the royal flying doctor to take us.
Unfortunately, this fell through time and time again so eventually, with our full support, we decided to get on an ambulance to Bunbury, with the plan to get another ambulance to Perth when available. I knew it would be a horrible night but I just wanted to be up in Perth where they could care for my child as well as possible.
Once in Bunbury, unfortunately, they were extremely understaffed and felt like my child had been ‘palmed off’ on them (and let me know this!!) which made me feel horrible. We were there for a few hours before an ambulance could come to take us to Perth. Once we were in Perth, we were there for 5 nights and everyone there was top notch.
