"My parent's most recent stay at hospital"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Sub-Acute Ward

(as a carer),

My parent was taken by ambulance recently to Bunbury Regional. They told my parent they were suffering from an infection and that they needed IV antibiotics. My parent got a shower with assistance the day after admission. For the rest of their stay which was for five (5) days, they never got showered.

I understand my parent was told they do not need assistance, yet they are on a level 4 home care package to help with showering and things. The nurse upset my parent by telling them what they had wrong with them is anxiety, when in fact my parent was told by the head neurological Dr at another hospital that it's non-elliptic seizures.

My parent got that upset, they wanted to leave the hospital. On the day when they sent my parent home, they still have pains in their head, stomach and legs which I believe they didn't investigate. My parent is in their late 60s but still deserves to be treated like a human being.

It makes us very mad that the hospital apparently doesn't care.

Dear lepuswj88,

I wish to firstly thank you for posting your experience and apologize that that care that your loved one received was not at the standard which we aspire to deliver. I am concerned that your parent left the hospital without having your symptoms alleviated and I hope that they have seen their local GP to have their ongoing issues assessed.

Whilst we encourage patients to be as independent as possible whilst they are in hospital I also acknowledge that your loved one needed help and did not receive this for which I am sorry.

My name is Ceri Elliott and I am the Acting Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Bunbury Hospital. Can I please ask that you contact me on 0447 793 904 so that we can discuss your experience and ensure that we can improve our care and also assist you with any further support that your loved one may require.

Yours sincerely

Ceri Elliott
