We were transferred to Bunbury due to 'high risk' pregnancy of having a breech baby. In my opinion, this is not high risk but nonetheless. Upon our appointment we met the OB. They first made me feel a bit better as they explained they had trained previously with another hospital, and I had previously birthed there so knew they were understanding and would try to support my breech natural desires. Unfortunately, immediately I was told by the OB they would only perform a ECV to 'make me feel like I had tried all options but it wasn’t going to work'.
When the ECV was unsuccessful I felt they very bluntly told me, as I recall, I wouldn’t be able to find an OB willing to support my wishes but if I still had my heart set on it they could call another hospital however they knew they would say no, especially as they apparently had been the OB previous to answer those calls.
When I still said my wishes were for them to call. They did, but alas they told me the other hospital didn’t support it.
This made me feel very frustrated, as I know have every right to a natural birth if that is what I wish and I believe if I presented at the other hospital they would accept me.
At no point did the OB ever make me feel empowered or in control in my own body and birth. I felt very uncomfortable around them so much so that I choose to drive some hours to avoid them at my labour and birth at another hospital.
