I attended Fiona Stanley Ed experiencing multiple symptoms of covid and due to the potential risk I was placed in the isolation room in the children's ED area. I was left there for approximately 2 hours. I was freezing cold and when stated this to triage, I felt the care factor was zero and I was told to get back in the isolation area. Hospital staff also placed two others in there with me who, as I understand it, were not potential covid risk. This in itself seems ludicrous to me. The fact that the isolation area is in the children's ED also baffles me. I remained there for 2 hours not being seen by a Dr once.
After two hours waiting in the cold area, I was taken into the hospital and put into an enclosed room adjacent to other patients. I had to wait outside the door in very close vicinity to other patients while the room was cleaned before I entered. I would think this would be done before bringing me in etc.
A nurse saw me did my blood pressure and a blood sugar test and asked me to give a phlegm sample. They also wanted me to do a urine test so I asked for some water. They said they would be back with some water and a sample bottle so I could do this. They also said the Dr would come see me. This never occurred in 2 and a half hours of waiting in this room. The phlegm sample also remained in the room with me throughout this period. Not one Dr had come to see me in the 4 and a half hours I was at the hospital. No tests were done besides what I mentioned earlier.
As I was a potential covid risk I find this highly incompetent.
I decided to leave and to attend another hospital.
I later found out a staff member had also apparently discarded my phlegm sample. I believe no test was done on it.
I believe the duty of care seems to be non-existent at this hospital.
I referred my complaint to a patient liaison officer and felt they made excuses for what I believe to be the staff's incompetence, and excuses for the hospital not giving me a covid test after being there for 4 and a half hours.
I wanted to make a formal complaint in person but was told that due to the fact I was a covid risk, not to attend the office.
In my opinion, this means the hospital is willing to protect their staff from potential covid patients but seemingly have no problem placing two other patients who I believe are not a covid risk in the same isolation room as me.
I spoke to the two people in the isolation room and they personally told me they were not covid risks etc and were also confused why they would be placed in an isolation room with a covid-potential patient.
I still have no idea why this isolation room is in the children's ED.
In my opinion, you would think this would be in a separate area away from children and parents who are not potentially affected by covid.
