Just recently, while on holiday in Perth, I was hit with an acute episode of abdominal pain that continued throughout the night. I have had four previous acute bouts of this pain in the past 12 months, had presented myself to my local emergency department with no cause being found and was sent home with two panadol. In light of these experiences, I was very reluctant to present myself to Armadale Hospital, Emergency Department.
This time, however, the doctor stopped to listen to what I admit are a bewildering array of symptoms, and to ask clarifying questions. They said, there is something not quite right about this, and that they are going to get me a CT scan. And then bingo! By no means a complete answer to what's behind an illness that has been getting steadily worse over the past 12 months, but a clear pointer in my opinion, to a possible diagnosis or at least the path forward to finding one.
Thank you, Dr Ben, (ED Registrar) from Armadale Kelmscott Hospital. Even if this does not lead to definitive answers, you have done what I believe few others have done. I felt you looked at me as an individual, unique in my presentation of my pain, and despite there being no certain reason for my complaints and that I have ptsd, I felt you believed me and joined with me on the search for an answer. I can't ask for more than that, and I am so very grateful.
"Grateful for the care by ED registrar"
