"MGP & caesarean delivery"

About: Collie Hospital / Maternity and Delivery

(as the patient),

We had our second child, a healthy baby girl recently.

We were able to utilize the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) Program at Collie Hospital which I feel is a fantastic service. I found that the team of midwives are very informative, supportive, friendly and always willing to answer any questions we had. Having consistency of care made us feel very comfortable and being able to phone/text the midwife at any time is something I believe first time mums will find invaluable. Knowing the midwife program conducts regular and consistent home visits antenatally was reassuring and gave us the confidence to go home knowing there is someone always available to support you.

As I had a caesarean delivery for my first child I planned on having another caesarean delivery for my second child. At first there was a chance that we may have needed to travel 45 minutes to another hospital for a caesarean delivery which we were quite anxious about however we were relieved and elated when it was confirmed that we were able to welcome our baby girl via elective caesarean at the Collie Hospital.

During the caesarean we could not have asked for a better experience! The midwives, surgeon/obstetrician, anesthetist, theatre staff and all other staff we saw at Collie Hospital were professional, informative and supportive. They did all the double checks and kept us well informed so we felt safe, comfortable, relaxed and confident of a positive outcome. My caesarean delivery went perfectly with no complications.

It was extremely convenient to be able to have a caesarean delivery in my home town of Collie rather than travel 45 minutes to another hospital. My husband was able to stay at Collie Hospital with me for my entire hospital stay which is great for his baby bonding time and helpful in assisting me as I recovered/healed from my caesarean. Having been able to have my caesarean at Collie Hospital also made arranging care for my first born easier and family were able to visit us in hospital without the need to travel.

Overall, I cannot recommend the MGP Program at Collie Hospital and the doctors, nurses and staff associated with my caesarian delivery enough to others. We are very lucky to have this available at Collie Hospital and I hope that more mothers are able to have their caesarian deliveries at Collie Hospital.

Dear scorp20,

Thanks so much for taking the time to tell us about what you positive birth experience at Collie hospital.

WA Country Health is deeply committed to keeping birth close to home for families who live rural and remote; and to growing maternity services that are consumer focused and evidence based.

As part of this commitment Collie Midwifery Group Practice was implemented a year ago with a group of passionate and experienced midwives. They together with the local GP obstetricians have been working hard to increase birthing options available locally to local families and it is wonderful to hear that their efforts are reaping the rewards.

The midwives phoned me once your baby was snuggled up in you arms to tell me how delighted they all were and how wonderful it was to be able to provide this service for the families they care for.

Once again thanks for providing feedback. Your experience is invaluable and helps to guide us and ensure we continue to meet the needs of local birthing families.

Kind regards,

Abbey Rodda
