I had a fantastic experience in the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) care at KEMH throughout my pregnancy and labour. This type of 1:1 midwife-led care seeing the same midwife throughout is, I found so valuable and I have been recommending to all my friends to request this program when they are referred to a public hospital for pregnancy as I believe more women should be able to access this type of care!
My MGP midwife Mel was always so patient with my questions at each antenatal appointment, took time to explain everything to me especially when decisions needed to be made, and was always non-judgmental and supportive. During the labour, Mel was also fantastic and advocated for me to follow my birth preferences, and post-partum Mel was very supportive and helpful. In addition to Mel, I also had the pleasure of receiving care from several other midwives in the MGP and they were all so lovely and helpful!
Our experience of the care in the MFAU at KEMH was also positive when we had a scare and went in to be checked late at night at 31w. All of the midwives and doctors who we dealt with there were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable.
My husband and I were very impressed with all of the nurses we dealt with in the NICU! Based on our experience, they were incredibly supportive, friendly and caring while our baby was in there for 4 nights after her birth. They always kept us informed, explained things and made us feel comfortable and offered so much invaluable advice for us as first-time parents, we felt it really set us and our baby up for success once we were able to take her home and we’re forever thankful. I also found the lactation consultants that visited the NICU were a huge help and such a good service to have!
I’d like to also add that there was one older midwife who did my discharge from the Ward (even though she wasn’t my assigned midwife because my assigned midwife never came after I rang the call bell..) and she gave me some helpful advice on a few things before I left which was appreciated, so thank you to her.
Overall our experience at KEMH was very positive and we are so grateful to have been in the MGP as we believe it was a huge benefit compared to non-MGP antenatal care. We will definitely be giving them a call and going through MGP again next time :)
"MGP highly recommended!"
