"Mental health self harm follow up"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department

My partner and I took a young person to Charles Gairdner Emergency recently on advice from lifeline that they have no family in WA and were self harming and we did not know what to do.

After admittance we were told they would be assessed, after around 4 hours and no real communication I approached the desk and I recall I was basically told go back and wait, 4hrs is not a lot others have waited longer (actually no one was still there from when we arrived). Probably, I believe, like other cases lately in the media I did not want to make a fuss so sat back down. Around an hour later the young person came out with some scripts. No one spoke to us, we could have had important information. We could have left and they were on their own in a foreign city.

I'm sorry, I know you guys get a lot of pressure as I have been in at 2am when the drunks and the druggies turn up  But really, is this how we seemingly treat people with serious mental health issues who are threatening to harm themselves, I believe, give them a script and push them out the door, what has society come to.
