"Diagnoses and appointment times"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Chemotherapy Unit, Cancer Centre, Cancer Outpatients Clinic, Bone Marrow Transplant, Oncology, Radiation Oncology & Ward 7C

(as the patient),

In my experience, the Cancer Clinic at Fiona Stanley Hospital is staffed by some lovely people, however, when it comes to diagnosis and appointment times it leaves you exhausted, anxious.

For example the appt time just after midday but not seen till 2 hours later. I wish they could improve this part of the service. And give the patient something in writing so when families check in with their loved ones they have info about what occurred at the appointment because I have found it is often a confusing and bewildering time.

Dear trapperwf39,

Thank you for your compliment regarding our lovely staff at the Cancer Centre – I certainly agree with you.

However, I was very sorry to read that the communication of your medical information and long waiting times for scheduled appointments is leaving you exhausted and anxious.

I can assure you that we do strive to see our patients as close to their scheduled appointment time as possible, however, unforeseen circumstances may arise which cause a delay to ensuing appointments. I am very sorry that you have experienced this.

The Cancer Centre does have written information available and I am sorry this was not offered or provided to you. Please make contact with the Nurse Unit Manager on 6152 5898 who can ensure relevant information is sent to you or provided at an upcoming appointment.

I wish you all the very best with your future treatment and recovery.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty
